Salicylic acid Pimples Treatment
Salicylic acid is a type of beta-hydroxy acid (BHA). They are obtained naturally from fruits and plants so they are commonly called fruit acids.
Salicylic acid works by peeling of dead layer of skin. The removal of dead cells helps unclog pores, thus treating comedone type of acne like blackheads and whiteheads. It also removes sebum (oil) from skin pores, making the skin feel smoother.
Salicylic acid is usually mixed together with other active ingredients in other the counter products to fight acne. It comes in concentration of 0.5% to 2%.
Salicylic acid can be use concurrently with Benzoyl peroxide for a more effective treatment against acne.
Side effects of Salicylic acid
You might develop slight stinging sensation when using it for the first time. Dryness and redness on the areas applied are expected to very mild. You can use a non oil-based moisturizer to prevent that dryness effect.
Pregnant women are advised not to use Salicylic acid as it might lead to Reye’s syndrome. They should consult a doctor first before using any over the counter products as there could be other active ingredients that are harmful to babies or themselves in the formulation. Tropical Pimple Treatments
