Retinoids are synthetic chemical compounds derived from Vitamin A. They help clear microscopic plugging of pilo-sebaceous units, whiteheads and blackheads. Applying Retinoids
You should start on the lowest concentration of retinoid to let your skin get used to its side effect. Start off by using retinoid every other day or even less frequently to allow your skin to adapt to it. Once your skin has less irritation, you can then increase the dosage or concentration. Try to apply it during the night 30 minutes after washing your face as retinoid may cause skin sensitivity to sunlight.
Side effects
Retinoids may cause your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight and get sunburn easily. It is recommended to apply retinoid at night. Without the sun, there is no sunlight. However the sensitivity effect will wear off after a month or two with constant usage of retinoid. If you need to be in the sun after apply retinoid, just wear a sunscreen and use sunblock lotion over your retinoid medication.
The skin usually gets irritated during the first few week of using retinoid. You may get redness and peeling on your skin. The irritation should improve up after a few weeks. Use a moisturizer to help soothe the irritation.
